Moss, born 13 February 1977, is a former American football player. He was a
former American footballer who played for 14 seasons in the National Football
League (NFL), including with the Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders and the
New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. Along with Jerry Rice, he is
generally regarded as the most outstanding wide receiver in history. Moss holds
the NFL single year touchdown record (23 in 2007) and the rookie NFL single season
touchdown record (17 in 1998). He is as the second highest on the NFL all time
regular season touchdown list with 156. Moss was well known for his skills in
securing contestable catches, and the term "mossed" has been
incorporated into football's lexicon. He began his career as a studio analyst
with ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown and Tuesday Night Countdown shows. Moss was an
Rand, West Virginia native. He was a student at DuPont High School, one of two
schools later amalgamated into Riverside High School, where the student
excelled in football basketball and baseball as well as track. Randy was also a
part of the school's debating club. Moss was a DuPont Panthers' football player
who helped them win back-to-back state championshipsin 1992 and 1993. His most
prominent position was wide receiver. But Moss also played safety for free in
punted kickoffs, as well as was the team’s punter and kicker. In 1994, he was
honored with the Kennedy Award as the West Virginia Football Player of the
Year. Parade magazine named him to their All-American high-school football
teams in 1995. In 2009 they named him as one of the 50 greatest high-school
football players of all-time.
